Blake Shelton's winning streak came to an end on The Voice last night as the final three contestants America voted through to next week's finale did not include his remaining artist, Cole Vosbury. As we all know, Shelton won the past three seasons of The Voice, but as he told me last night after the results show, that doesn't make it easier for him to not be a part of this year's finale.
"I didn't want to go into this finale without Cole. But what do you do? We did everything we could do and there's always that intangible thing that none of us can figure out which is that thing it takes to win. And I said it before, Danielle [Bradbery] had that thing, Cassadee [Pope] had it, Jermaine Paul had it. But it's awful, it's horrible, it's as bad as it can be for me as a coach for that to have happened tonight," said Shelton.
Despite not having an artist battle it out in the finale this season, Shelton said he still feels like a winner when he sees the success of his past artists', whom we saw perform during Tuesday's results show.
"To be able to sit there in that chair tonight and see Danielle perform, and Cassadee and The Swon Brothers, and to know that some of these people are doing well now because they had this exposure on this show. They got to prove who they are and how good they are-they're doing great now!" Said the Country music star and this year’s CMA Album of the Year winner. "I would have given anything at the start of my career to be on a television show that is watched by this many people. It's just a gift and I think I celebrate it probably even more than they do because they're in the middle of being in it."
Shelton definitely has a lot to celebrate as a coach! Last season's winner Danielle Bradbery's album debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Country iTunes chart.
"Danielle Bradbery, she won season four which was just months ago, her debut album came out and sold over 41,000 copies first week. Not to mention in a time where people just don't sell albums anymore, they sell singles. She sold a bunch of albums. And is continuing to sell. She's now the face of Sketchers for 2014. She has the theme song for the Olympics. I mean it's hard for me to keep up with the huge things that most people would point back at after doing this for 20 years and look over and go, 'Man, one time I was the voice of the Olympics, I had a deal with Sketchers.' She's already had these things happen within months of winning this show and it's because she's a really special person. She's a great talent. A born star," said the very proud coach.
"For me to be able to sit back and watch it happen for her and know what her future looks like, I'm really excited about things like that."
When asked who he thinks will follow in Bradbery's footsteps this year, Shelton says his vote is for Team Adam's Tessanne Chin.
"Tessanne is my pick to win and for no other reason than I have eyes, and I can look at iTunes and see what happened yesterday. I think with her performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water", something happened. Something clicked. She's been great all this time and I've been one of the first one's who has been frustrated with the fact that she's been kind of held to a reggae sound. Just because she's from Jamaica, people expected her to do a specific sound from that country. Tessanne should never be limited. She should never feel like she could only do one thing. She can do everything. And I think that when she did "Bridge Over Troubled Water", everybody went, "Oh my gosh! This has nothing to do with her accent or where she's from. This has to do with who else in the world can sing like this girl sings? I'm excited about that for her."
Do you agree with Blake that Tessanne Chin will be the season 6 champion of The Voice or do you think it will be Will Champlin or Jacquie Lee? Let us know!
