Cosplay is a fan-based comic con activity that involves individuals dressing up as their favorite character, and it is something that crosses all genres as well as genders. In fact it is often more interesting to see some of the more elaborate gender bending costumes that are brought to comicbook shows that combine characters from different media as well as cross gender lines. We’ve seen men dressed as Wonder Woman, and women dressed as Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and others. We’ve seen Steam-Punk Dock Ock, as well a whole plethora of anime and sci-fi characters that would make your head spin. Perhaps that is why we are personally looking forward to the Blackout Cosplay event that is occurring in Salem Mass on the evening of Saturday August 9, 2014.
The event is being held from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on August 9, 2014 at the YMCA in Salem, MA (1 Sewell Street, Salem, MA). The event is intended for 18-year-olds-and older (valid identification is required). Participants are asked to dress in cosplay solo or in a team. The event is being hosted by GigaCon, and the event’s promoters recommend the use of blacklight reactive makeup and accessories in preparing costumes for maximum effect. There is a $10 Cover for the event ($15 Cover at the door), with a Cosplay Contest where the winner will receive $100 + 3 Tickets to the Nightmare Museum; 2nd Place Prize receives two tickets to the Nightmare Museum.
