The Blackhawks got off to another hot start as Joakim Nordstrom scored his first NHL goal at 9:32 of the first period off a sweet pass from Niklas Hjalmarsson. It would be more Blackhawks when the Jonathan Toews scored at 16:05. Duncan Keith missed the net and Toews slapped home a shot from the left faceoff circle past a diving Kevin Poulin. But the Blackhawks failed to hold onto the lead with another late minute collapse. Josh Bailey put in a rebound at 19:06. Not even 50 seconds later, John Tavares gave a big backhand pass to Kyle Okposo who fired a backhand shot past Nikolai Khabibulin at 19:55.
The second period would feature several power plays but neither team could convert. Off another Keith shot from the point, Michal Handzus scored his first goal when he put in a rebound at 6:45 of the second period. After two periods, the Blackhawks had a 21-13 edge in shots.
The third period would have five power plays in total, two for New York and three for the Blackhawks but neither team would score. The Blackhawks had to scramble to block a couple of shots in the final minutes but held on for the victory.
What it means
In three games at home, the Blackhawks have recorded five out of six possible points. It is imperative that the Blackhawks take advantage of their early home cooking. This was the first time that the Blackhawks did not allow a goal in the third period.

3. Johnny Oduya- Oduya had a strong game for the Blackhawks as he was on the ice for 20:36. He had one shot on goal and delivered one hit. But the most important contribution that Oduya made was his six blocked shots.
2. Duncan Keith- Number two had a very good game as well. Keith had two assists and was a plus one. Ever the workhorse, Keith logged a team high 24:02 of ice time and recorded two takeaways.
1. Jonathan Toews- The captain had another strong game. He scored his second goal of the year and in as many games. Toews was a minus one but recorded a team high seven shots on goal. It was an all around game for Toews who compiled one hit, one takeaway and won 16 of 23 faceoffs.
