Blackhawks rally in third only to lose in shootout to Sharks 3-2

The Chicago Blackhawks lost to the San Jose Sharks 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday evening. Next up, the Blackhawks get a few days off before they take on the New York Rangers on Wednesday at the United Center.

The Sharks came out dominating the play early and often during most of the game. The Sharks took the lead midway through the period when Jason Demers beat Corey Crawford past the left pad at 10:12. That would be all the scoring in the first period and there would be none the second period as Alex Stalock and Crawford matched each other by making several big saves.

The third period finally saw the Blackhawks assert their game as their defenseman got involved in the play. Jonathan Toews made a great pass to the center of the slot to Niklas Hjalmarsson who skated and found a soft spot in the zone. Hjalmarsson unleashed a bomb that beat Stalock over the glove at 1:27. Just a little while later, the Blackhawks would take the lead as Michal Rozsival scored at 4:01 on a slap shot. But the Blackhawks would be unable to hold the lead as Joe Thornton made a great backhand pass to Brett Burns in front of the net who tapped it in at 11:10.

The game would head to overtime where there would be no scoring. In the shootout, Toews would be stopped by the pads of Stalock and Logan Couture would go beat Crawford with a nice backhand to forehand move. Patrick Sharp was up next and missed the net. Joe Pavelski would end the shootout as he beat Crawford with a wrist shot.
