“Don’t take any wooden nickels”, is also a great tip. There are many questionable tales about how this advice originated. The Wooden Nickel Historical Museum, has a the most plausible explanation. It seems that during the Great Depression wooden coins were used locally as script to help with currency shortages. These coins had short term expiration dates after which they would be worthless.
