On January 21st Image Entertainment will release genre favorite Bill Oberst Jr's (Resolution) new film Black Water Vampire. The movie is directed by Even Tramel and stars Oberst, Danielle Lozeau, Andrea Monier, Anthony Fanelli and Robin Steffen. Look for Black Water Vampire on DVD shelves and on demand at the same time with a limited theater release in February. This is just one of the many of Oberst Jr. film you can expect in 2014.
A group of young documentary filmmakers set off to uncover the true story behind the Black Water murders, a series of brutal killings where women were found dumped in the woods, savagely slain, with their mutilated bodies completely drained of blood. In an attempt to exonerate the man accused of the crimes, they journey into the wilderness where the deaths occurred and find themselves face to face with a form of evil they could have never imagined. What began as a mission to save a wrongly convicted man turns into a battle for their own lives.
From what I saw from the trailer it looks familiar to the classic found footage tale The Blair Witch Project. Add to that a primal looking vampire and now we have a combination of two of the more popular subgenres in horror. Bill Oberst is a busy man with about 5 films that have been recently completed, about 13 that are in post production including this one and he is filming about 8 more through 2015. I don’t know if there is a competition against he and Danny Trejo for most titles in horror but regardless it’s nice to know we will be seeing his face often.
Look for more on this soon but for now enjoy the new one sheet along with some images and the official trailer!
