Black Mountain Express lift construction update from Arapahoe Basin Ski Area

The Black Mountain Express will follow the same general line uphill as the Exhibition Lift, but will end up a little bit farther to the west (right) of the Black Mountain Lodge (upper left corner).

Arapahoe Basin is striding toward the completion of its new lift, the Black Mountain Express. The high-speed quad appears to be on target so that it’s up and ready for the upcoming ski season. The life replaces the Exhibition lift at the base of the mountain. Exhibition’s chairs were sold at the end of this past season when the lift was dismantled.

The Black Mountain Express will be slightly realigned uphill and to the west, away from Black Mountain Lodge, while the lower terminal remains in the same location as the Exhibition lift. The new lift is expected to have a capacity of 2,000 skiers per hour, a length of 2,877 feet and a vertical rise of 719 feet. The ride time will be just under three minutes, half the time it took the Exhibition lift.

A section of the lower return terminal on-site and ready to install. The Black Mountain Express will be ready to go for the 2010-2011 season.

Recent updates from A-Basin on its website said the majority of foundations for the lift towers and terminals were nearly complete, the motor room was being transported by air from Switzerland for installation later this month, and a section of the lower return terminal has arrived.
