‘Black Magic M-66’ licensed by Maiden Japan

Earlier today, anime publisher Maiden Japan announced that they have acquired the cyberpunk classic OVA, “Black Magic M-66”, for release in North America later this year.

Black Magic M-66” is based on the manga written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow (Appleseed), who also co-directs the OVA alongside Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Jo Jo’s Bizarre Adventure). The OVA was originally created in 1987.

The anime follows Sybil, a freelance journalist out for a big scoop who finds it in the form of two malfunctioning combat androids accidently let loose on a termination mission against the granddaughter of their creator. To save herself, and her story, Sybil will have to stay alive, along with her subject, long enough to file her story.

Maiden Japan will release “Black Magic M-66”, in conjunction with Section23 Films, on English subtitled DVD on July 9, 2013. It will also be available in digital formats.
