This weekend celebrates Tennessee State University's homecoming. Thousands of graduates come from near and far to celebrate the occasion. There will be football games, parades, tailgating, and lots of social events. One in particular stands out to the jet-setting crowd - the Black Lux party sponsored by Lovenoise, Stayonthego.com, Latham Entertainment, and local urban radio station 92Q.
Homecoming gossip has officially cited the Black Lux party as the "place to be" on Saturday night. Party promoters have appealed to their audience by holding the event in the newest boutique hotel on West End Ave, the Hutton Hotel and targeting urban America's hottest trend, wearing ALL BLACK. Wearing all black has become a fast moving trend with the thanks of rapper, Jay-Z. He quoted the now famous line, "All black everything . . .", on his new album, Blueprint 3. The song, 'Death of Auto-tune' is the rapper's request to bring hip-hop back to it's basic state, forgetting about all the fancy name brands and flashy clothing. So, wearing all black is a salute to taking yourself and your passions seriously. This is a trend that can be easily executed with the right finesse and confidence.
Now, the question becomes, "How does one wear all black, with a trendy twist.?" Wearing all black is certainly not new, but the way it's being worn is new. Fashionistas and fashionable guys are layering their looks with the touchable softness of cashmere sweaters and the rocker hard edge of gun metal accessories. There are plenty of ways to wear the trend without looking like a goth high-school student trying too hard to be cool. The all black trend is friendly to all body types and clothing styles - pencil skirts, skinny jeans, cocktail dresses, and sky-high stilettos can get the all black treatment.

Ladies, don't be afraid to work with texture. Black lace stockings, a black wool skirt, leather booties, and a sparkly blazer can be an outfit that will send you out on the town. Above, you can see several items spotlighting the trend. Mix and match accessories to build your look. Also, the trend can be worn day and night with the addition or subtraction of a couple of elements.
Guys, you can go for a polished or edgy look. Try pairing a blazer, with slim indigo jeans, Converse sneakers or black Timberland boots, and a fitted t-shirt for the daytime. Then try a black pin-stripped suit with a black shirt, and no tie for a night time event. Finish either look off with a gunmetal or titanium watch in your favorite style.
So if you are in Nashville are and you want to try your new all black look out in public, join 100's of gorgeous people at the Black Lux event at the Hutton Hotel on Saturday, November, 7, 2009. Doors open at 10pm. You can buy tickets on-line at Eventbrite.
