Black lava and red gold sea salt

According to Palm Island Premium, a division of the Hawaii Kai corporation, their Black Lava sea salt is a combination of their special White Silver salt and activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is beneficial in aiding in digestion and it has also been proven as an anti-toxin. This salt has a rich flavor and very dramatic appearance. While you can use it for cooking, it's a great finishing touch on meats and vegetables because of the dark black appearance.

Palm Island also has another variety of sea salt, called Red Gold sea salt. This salt takes their special White Silver salt and blends Hawaiian red alaea clay with it. This clay is known for its medicinal properties and health benefits, as well as being full of iron. It has an unique flavor, somewhat zesty and goes great with barbeque, poultry and seafood recipes.

While sea salt tends to be a little better for you than regular table salt, it is still important to monitor the amount of salt you consume per day. Too much salt is a bad thing. One of the best tips for reducing salt intake is to make sure you're using sodium-free ingredients. Most canned ingredients like vegetables and stocks are loaded with salt. By using the reduced-sodium or sodium-free varieties, you have much better control over how much salt you consume.

Your local Vitamin Cottage store in Lakewood carries a line of the Palm Island Premium salts. The price is very affordable and these new ingredients will help you add a little spice to your dishes.
