Black Label Society's gathering at Club Nokia (Photos)

Black Label Society rocked an almost acoustic set at Club Nokia, Mar. 6. It was filmed for AXS TV’s special, “Unblackened: with Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society”.

Zakk Wylde is the lead vocalist and guitarist, Nick Catanese is the guitarist, John “JD” DeServio is the bassist, Chad Szeliga is the drummer, Gregg Locascio is the backup vocalist and Derek Sherinian is the keyboarist of Black Label Society. Wylde also played the piano.

Before Black Label Society’s concert could begin, three men stood in front of the stage. They yanked down the banner which covered the stage, as Szeliga and DeServio provided an instrumental introduction to “Losing Your Mind”.

During “Spoke In The Wheel”, Wylde played the piano and the audience clapped their hands rhythmically. As Black Label Society continued to play, he took a brief moment to greet his home city of Los Angeles.

As Black Label Society performed ““Sweet Jesus”—two pictures alternated of Pantera and Damageplan’s, Dimebag Darrell, on every television screen in the venue. Audience members began to repeatedly chant “Dimebag” and his name echoed throughout the venue, in near pitch perfect precision.

After paying respects to Dimebag Darrell, the stage lights flickered in a white strobe light effect to represent lightning. The sound from the speakers began to rumble to represent thunder and Black Label Society followed with “Throwing It All Away”. When the recital came to an end, it ended the way just as it began—with the sights and sounds of lightning and thunder.

Prior to “I Thank You Child”, a vintage home video of Wylde and his daughter were shown on the television screens. They displayed a duet between the two of them, as he strummed an acoustic guitar. Then, Black Label Society took over.

Wylde announced “Stillborn” was the last performance of the evening. After the performance, Black Label Society gathered at the front and center of the stage. They took a bow and Szeliga threw several drum sticks into the crowd. Members of the audience remained where they were, as the band walked off stage. Repeated chants of “B.L.S.” and “Encore” soon followed, as the music of Johnny Cash played through the speakers.

“The Blessed Hellride”, “Sold My Soul”, “Road Back Home”, “House of Doom”, “Queen of Sorrow”, “Machine Gun Man”, “In This River”, “Esteaban”, “Won’t Find It Here”, “Rust” and “Speedball” were also part of Black Label Society’s set.
