The hardcover, 192-page book also functions as an exhibition catalogue and includes photo documentation of artworks in the 2008 Renaissance Society group exhibition of the same name. Curated by Hamza Walker, the exhibition showcased the work of 26 artists.
As the Renaissance Society’s Associate Curator and Education Director, Walker will kick off the Sunday event with a keynote, followed by presentations from panelists Thelma Golden, Bennett Simpson, Kellie Jones, and Huey Copeland who will moderate the discussion on the changing rhetoric of race in American culture.
Copeland is also a contributing essayist in the book, along with Darby English, Greg Foster-Rice, Amy Mooney, Kym Pinder, Krista Thompson, and Kenneth Warren.
The event is presented with support from the The Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture at the University of Chicago. For more information visit www.renaissancesociety.org.
