Children all around West Palm Beach celebrate Black History Month through stories, activities and crafts at schools, community centers and libraries. You might have to look a little closer in your community to find opportunities for adults to participate too. Black History Month is not just for kids.
This Saturday, Feb. 11, the South Bay branch of the Palm Beach County Library System (PBCLS) is offering a Saturday Matinee: “For Colored Girls” by Lionsgate (134 min.) R. “Each of the women portray one of the characters represented in the collection of twenty poems, revealing different issues that impact women in general and women of color in particular” (IMDB)
Also on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Wellington branch of the PBCLS you will have the opportunity to join librarian Ron Glass as he leads a discussion of “Disintegration: The Splintering of Black America,” by Eugene Robinson. At the discussion you will “learn how the African American community has split into four distinctive communities with separate struggles and goals. (2 hr.)”
You can find the schedule of all events the PBCLS is offering to celebrate Black History Month on the PBCLS website.
