Black History Events - February 2013, Rockford, IL

During the month of February, various events will take place honoring Black History Month.

Vetrans Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main, Rockford, on February 2, 2013 there will be a program from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. In 1942 the first African Americans were recruited into the Marine Corps. Original Members of the Chicago Chapter of the Montford Point Marines will share their stories of service. The cost is: $5.00.

The Tuskegee Airmen will be there in person and two documented original Tuskegee Airmen wil give testimony of their experiences while training at the nation's first African American military flight school. The cost is $5.00.

Ethnic Heritage Museum honors Black History Month.

The Ethnic Heritage Museum (EHM) will celebrate Black History Month with a tribute to the Black Historical Fraternal Organizations on Feb. 9 - 10, 2013.

On February 9, the African Americajn Gallery w8ll host an Italian Dinner Buffet and "Divine 9" Step/Stroll Show at 6:00 pm at the Rockford College Burpee Center, 5050 E. State Streedt, Rockford, Tickets are $25.00 for adudlts and $15.00 for students.

On February 10, the "Salute to Black Historical Fraternal Orniza6tions" exhibit will be unveiled at the Ethnic Heritage Museum, 1129 S. Main Street, Rockford, open from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. A short program will be given at 2:30 pm, and light refreshments will be served. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. The exhibit will open from 2:00 to 4:00 pm evey Sunday through April 7, regular admission is $10.00 for families, $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.
