It is easy for us to see these covers as just pictures on magazines but I think that they represent so much more. Black IS beautiful.
BEYONCE – Who runs the world? Girls! Beyonce is always promoting empowerment of women and TIME Magazine decided to name her one of the world’s most influential people of 2013. The powerhouse is gracing the cover in a white two-piece swimsuit. The surprise release of her album in December speaks to her influence on the world. Not only that but she has built an empire that has kept her relevant for many years. Black is not always seen as beautiful but when little brown girls see faces that look like them on the cover of these popular publications, it gives them hope.
LUPITA NYONG’O – Our new favorite actress and style crush was named “The World’s Most Beautiful Person of 2014” by People Magazine. The Academy Award winner was definitely deserving of the title as she has shown that there are so many shades of beauty. Lupita’s deep, rich brown skin paired with her short hair do has not gone unnoticed and she shows that you don’t have to look like what the media defines as beautiful. She has redefined beauty and she wears it so well. Lupita told People in the May issue, "I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen."
