Monday, the National Retail Federation released the sales numbers and results for Black Friday weekend and they are as predicted lower in 2013 from last year; the sales numbers include online and in-store purchases made between Thanksgiving and Sunday and they fell 2.9% from last year. Holiday retail sales for those dates in 2012 were $57.4 billion dollars, according to USA Today.

The video to the left shows how Cyber Monday sales extended through the week help to increase the bottom line for many retailers.

While traffic in the stores grew 27% on Thanksgiving this year (most likely due to many stores opening earlier this year), overall sales were down. An estimated 1/3 of consumers shopped on Thanksgiving day this year. Last year, spending grew to $59.1 billion.

Walmart was the most aggressive store this year with Black Friday marketing and deals in the store and competed heavily to get people into their stores on Thanksgiving. While stores like Best Buy offered their door buster sales online on Black Friday.

A huge spike in eBay sales occurred Friday morning and was unanticipated. See the link below for more on that story.
