As Black Friday 2013 predictions continue to roll in before the big holiday shopping day, the latest indicates some interesting consumer trends that could be a preview of the sales to come. An Ask.com survey asked shoppers about preferred brands, most popular items, and when or where they plan to do their Black Friday sales and deal shopping.
The Oct. 1 report from Yahoo! (PR Newswire), states that data for holiday shopping gifts and trends was collected from the 100 million monthly Ask.com users. When it comes down to the "top trending consumer product," the Apple iPad 5 wins that distinction. Samsung Galaxy Note, Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One and Google Nexus Android tablet followed it as top products among consumers.
Although iPad was the top consumer product, iPhone 5 didn't come out on top for the top trending retail search on the site. Instead it was Philip Lim 3.1 Collection for Target, which is available on the site in affordable prices for men and women's outfit pairings. The iPhone 5 ranked at second in that survey category for the Ask search queries.
Also in the survey findings is that LEGO was among the most wanted toy brands for the holiday season, edging out the Mattel, Hasbro and LeapFrog brands. The most popular toy is the LEGO Mindstorms set, as it was chosen by 40 percent of the users compared to 31% for the Barbie Dreamhouse. It should be noted that there is currently a LEGO Legends of Chima Lion CHI Temple set that ranks on the annual Toys R Us hot holiday toy list.
Some other points of interest in the data were the notion that 40% of the survey answerers said they planned on hitting stores ahead of Black Friday 2013 to avoid the large crowds. In addition, West Coast survey respondents were more likely to do their shopping online for holiday purchases, while East Coast respondents prefer to go to the actual stores. That particular data came from queries where more West Coasters navigated right to websites, whereas East Coasters requested store address info from their searches.
The Black Friday 2013 date is Nov. 29, the day right after Thanksgiving Day. It's officially considered the start of the holiday shopping season, and if this Ask.com survey is any indication, it could be interesting to see what sorts of sales deals are given on items such as the iPad and how successful the overall Black Friday sales deals end up being. As of this report, stores have yet to reveal any deals or have their sales flyers leaked online.
