It was a night of celebration as the Black Eyed Peas along with Charity Dreams and Grassroots Production wished BEP member Apl.De.Ap a big happy birthday along with the launch of Apl's charity organization's campaign "We Can Be Anything" at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, Tuesday, December 13, 2011.
Joining in the fun and red carpet extravaganza was comedian Edwin San Juan, singer JoJo, Poreotics, Pharcyde, The Rej3ctz, WeTheFutur3.
For singer JoJo, she was excited to be a part of Apl's birthday celebration and also helping out his campaign to raise funds to build 10, 000 classrooms in his native Philippines in two years. JoJo explained, "I"ve been to the Philippines a couple of times to perform. I got to interact with the people. We're helping out children."
As a person, Fergie was about to get teary eyed as she talked about Apl from his humble beginnings to the success he has now. "I mean, who gets adopted at 14 years old to come to America and what he became with all his obstacles - learning to speak the language, his astigmatism in his eyes. It's such a touching story."
Taboo also explained to this reporter's affiliate Celeste Arevalo of Pacific Rim Video, "He's an inspirational cat. He didn't know a word of English and now he's a prolific writer that I've ever come across. Big ups to Apl for being that guy, the King of the Philippines."
As the red carpet ended and the party began, attendees were treated to performances by the celebrity guests mentioned above plus a surprise treat of the Peas belting out a few of their hit songs.
The event raised over $350,000 for the "We Can Be Anything" campaign with one anonymous donation at $100,000. What a great way for Apl.De.Ap to celebrate his birthday by giving back to the Philippines.
