BJ’S Famous Pizookie is a simple but very addictive dessert. So much so that they have decided to trademark the name of it, even though the making of this type of dessert has been executed hundreds of times by millions of mothers ever since ice cream was invented, and cookies came straight from the oven.
But that doesn't happen much anymore – which is why BJ’S Famous Pizookie is as popular a dessert as I have witnessed to date.
What it is, exactly, is a fresh out of the oven cookie in a Suzy Home Maker type pan, but a bit larger, this over sized cookie is topped with two balls of ice cream. Depending on the type of Pizookie you order, there are variations (Cookies 'N Cream Pizookie and Triple Chocolate Pizookie made with ghirardelli). The cookie itself also has variations, chocolate chunk, white chocolate macadamia nut, peanut butter or oatmeal raisin walnut, and you can even request the cookie be half one or the other of these variations, creating the ultimate appeal.
Who in their right mind would turn down the opportunity to take at least one bite of a 'fresh out of the oven' warm and crispy cookie, combined with ice cream that has the perfect spoon-able consistency. Only those will a will of steel. This dessert is often served as a freebie on birthday's – given that you have already purchased dinner at BJ's. This is an easy successful way to draw people in – and grab them by their inner child to secure return customers.
I am not complaining – the dessert is beautiful, well constructed, simple, delicious, can be served with a handful of spoons, and yet satisfying beyond the average sweet ~ because in part it serves up the sweet life as well. Memories are as much a part of a great dessert experience as the dessert itself..
The wait staff knows this, and accommodates by serving with grace and pride. I had my fill at the BJ's in Cupertino, and would go back anytime, even without the dessert as everything else on the menu looked fresh and plentiful.
