A persistent flow of northwesterly winds, albeit slackening over time, will continue to bring some cloud cover and lake induced snow showers and flurries to the region this morning. Activity should wane toward the afternoon hours as the winds shift to a more southwesterly direction thanks to a weak area of low pressure that will make a run at the region later tonight and into Tuesday.
Conditions will remain quite cold, despite the wind shift to the southwest. Light snow remains possible tonight and through the day tomorrow thanks to the low pressure area which will help reinforce the cold, Arctic airmass that is set to take hold of the region by midweek.
Arctic high pressure will settle into the region beginning Tuesday evening and last through the end of the shortened work week. Some of the coldest air of the season thus far will be ushered into the region through this period. High temperatures will struggle to get out of the teens, while overnight lows may dip near, or slightly below zero in the Capital Region proper. Outlying areas and areas further north will likely see readings plunge well below zero overnight.
Today: Mostly cloudy with light snow showers or flurries possible at times during the day. High in the mid 20's. Northwest winds, shifting southwest at 5-10 MPH. Chance of snow is 30 percent. A dusting of snow accumulation possible.
Tonight: Overcast with periods of light snow and flurries developing, becoming breezy toward dawn. Low 10-15. Southwesterly winds 5-10 MPH early, shifting northwest late at night and increasing to 10-15 MPH. Chance of snow is 60 percent. Accumulations of an inch or two of snow possible.
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy and breezy with a chance of light snow showers or flurries through the day. High near 20. Northwest winds 10-20 MPH with some higher gusts to near 25 MPH at times. Chance of snow is 30 percent. A dusting of additional snow accumulation is possible.
Tuesday Night: Mostly clear and frigid. Low near zero. Northwest winds 5-10 MPH.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny and frigid. High near 15 and low near zero.
Thursday: Mostly sunny and frigid. High near 15 and low near zero.
Friday: Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of light snow. Cold. High near 20 and low near 5 above zero.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of light snow. High near 20 and low near 10.
