Bitter cold and blizzard conditions top the list of Michigan weather events on this day in history. From the National Weather Service archives here are the events that happened on February 3.

1985 - The overnight temperature dropped to a freezing -15° in Detroit!

1996 – The day starts with icy readings across much of the state. Record lows for the day include Grand Rapids -17°, Muskegon -14°, Alpena -22°, Flint -11°, Houghton Lake -31°, Marquette -31°, and Sault Ste. Marie -27°. Later that day many records are set for coolest high temperatures as the thermometer struggles to reach the single numbers.

2007 - Blizzard conditions prevail across southwest Lower Michigan as an arctic blast of frigid air moving over Lake Michigan produces thundersnow and whiteout conditions. Grand Rapids sets a record for snowfall for any February day with 11.3 inches of snow.
