A three-run eighth inning in rainy Louisville was enough to lift the Bisons over the Bats 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.
D.J Carrasco struggled on the mound, but with a stretched out bullpen due to a couple of blowout losses, the Bisons needed him to go deep into the game. He grinded out six innings, limiting the damage to three runs despite giving up eight hits and four walks.
With Carrasco doing his part to keep the Bisons within striking distance, the Bisons struck for a big two-out rally in the eighth with three straight singles by Luis Figueroa, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Nick Evans. Newly acquired outfielder Bubba Bell then stepped up and made his first hit as a Bison a big one, doubling in the go-ahead run.
Dale Thayer then stepped in and closed the door to earn his third save of the season for the Herd.
- As mentioned above, the Mets acquired Bell and Figueroa from Cleveland for cash considerations on Friday. New York recognized that things were getting thin in the organization after outfielder Lucas Duda was placed on the disabled list. Bell and Figueroa fill glaring needs for the Herd and should stabilize manager Tim Teufel's lineup.
- Pedro Beato picked up his first win coming out of the bullpen for the Bisons on Sunday. Beato is down on a rehab assignment after being placed on the DL with inflamation in his throwing elbow.
The Herd close out their four-game set in Louisville on Monday with an 11:05 a.m first pitch.
