We’re only about a month away from Austin’s infamous music monstrosity known as SXSW, and in case you happen to find yourself in the city limits (since it is only about an hour-and-a-half’s drive away from San Antonio), it may be in your best interests to check out a festival by the blunt name of WTF Fest that features a variety of talents ranging from spoken word to crossover thrash. The latter comes in the form of Austin’s most hostile thrashers Birth A.D., who will be performing alongside several acts that also include Mike IX Williams of legendary sludge metallers Eyehategod. The antidote to the typical SXSW event will take place on March 16th at 3601 S Congress. A partial lineup can be found below:
John Sinclair
Mike IX
Rick Shapiro
Shane and Amy Bugbee
Ugly Shyla
Birth A.D.
Input and Broken
Pyroplastic Flow
This is a free show, although donations are encouraged in order to cover expenses needed to allow this fest to happen, and can be contributed at the following Kickstarter location. WTF Fest apparently needs to reach a goal of $3000 for the Austin show to be free, so donating is heavily encouraged. Over $1000 has been raised so far, so please donate if possible for you to do so. WTF Fest also aims to transport itself to other markets in Oregon and Washington, and if a goal of $7000 is met, the shows in those markets will be free as well. The WTF Fest declaration of intent, as found on the aforementioned Kickstarter page:
To offer a venue and support for the creative class to gather, to conspire, to scream and shout, to speak out, speak to, speak up, and to laugh and to be political with out being pawns, and of course to push the boundaries of mind and taste. To be political without being pawns. We gather to inspire change by showing what an unleashed creative mind can do, can say, can act and can live - free and by it's own bounds.
This is certainly a noble cause that deserves support, so please contribute in any way possible. Hope to see many of you at the festival!
