Birmingham snowed in (Video)

Local authorities (police, city, and county) have been warning people in Birmingham to avoid driving until the ice has melted off the roads in Birmingham on Jan. 18, 2012.

The three to four inch snowfall of three to four inches left some roads covered and most roads and highways are slick with ice.

The temperature is expected to rise to 53°F during the day and the ice and snow will melt.

Birmingham City schools and Jefferson County schools are scheduled for a late opening between 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Birmingham will actually get to enjoy sunshine for the first time in more than a week.

The idea is to stay home until driving is safe.

A few brave or foolhardy souls were already venturing out onto local roads in Trussville at 5:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. Multiple wrecks have already been reported on I-459 and highway 280.

Pity the person who has an accident because they do not know how to drive on ice. The police have enough problems and will not take kindly to your driving on ice.

Your insurance company may have a surprise for you if you drive on ice when warnings have been made public not to drive. That surprise is no coverage.

Just stay home and play in the snow until it melts. Photos are from Old Springville Road and the Georgebrooke Community in Trussville.
