Birmingham offers opportunity for integrative practices for better health!

What an exciting time in the Birmingham area with regards to mind, body, and spirit integration!

Beginning this week, there are tons of things to do with regards to helping you to lead a more holistic life of health and well being focused around yoga and meditation.

On Tuesday of this week, August 14, at the Trussville Public Library, John Harrod, a certified teacher of Transcendental Meditation will give a free lecture on the benefits of TM. It will begin at 6:30 P.M. He will also give this lecture at Birmingham Yoga on August 22 at 7:45 P.M. He will discuss the many benefits of meditation from the practical standpoint to the scientific side. Both events are free and open to the public.

Wednesday from 11:30-1:00, join Laurie M. Knight for spiritual journaling at Natural Forces Studio. The class will be held August 15 and 29. $15 per class. On Wednesday, August 15, Birmingham Yoga’s Kewal Nam Kaur (Kerry Meon) will begin a third Wednesday of the month series of group meditation in the Kundalini tradition. See www.BirminghamYoga.com for details on exactly what to expect. That class will be 7:30-8:30 and regular rates apply.

Then on the weekend of August 17-19, India Henson will hold an intensive regarding practice, theory, and application of the benefits of Chair Yoga at Villager Yoga. She’s the area’s leading teacher pushing to get yoga to all people and this is just one way for her to spread the word. She’s been featured on a recent news segment and has participated in grant contests to make yoga accessible to all people. September is National Yoga Month and there is so much going on that the schedule hasn’t even been finalized yet! There will be free classes and special offerings around town by various teachers. Stay tuned! (See previous post for more information!)

Becca Impello is presenting a workshop at Birmingham Yoga on September 15 from 8-5 on the Healing Potential of Yoga. This is the emerging field of Yoga Therapy. Becca will share the scientific and applicable answers to the many questions of yoga as a therapeutic and healing modality. She is a physical therapist and long time fitness and yoga instructor with a practical approach to delivering the benefits of yoga to yogis and non-yogis alike.
