The Birmingham Police Department announced on October 9, 2013 that Lorenzo Billingsley, 47, of Birmingham, has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of a 22 year old former Tarrant High School football star.
The announcement states that the incident occurred shortly before midnight on October 2, 2013. Police searched the area and found Billingsley hiding underneath the residence. He was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail, in Birmingham. His bond is set at $200,000. He was formally charged with murder on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, although the announcement was not made until Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.
Powell was a star football player at Tarrant High School. After graduation, he worked in road construction. Family members said they didn't know Billingsley but said Powell did.
