In an effort to regain some control and renewed confidence by consumers about the present horse meat scandal, Birds Eye has discovered and is releasing their suspected source of meat contamination
Birds Eye has diligently investigated all sources of its meat suppliers. The giant company has three particular frozen food products that are involved in the horse meat contamination. The starting point for each of the products traced to an Irish meat processing company.
In a detailed report in the Scotsman, the Birds Eye spokesperson revealed that QK Meats supplied all of the contaminated meat which was sold to Frigilunch N.V., and Frigilunch then used the meat to produce the food products they eventually supplied to Birds Eye. QK Meats is located in the Republic of Ireland.
Frigilunch N.V. has been conducting its own testing as well as an in-depth investigation about possible meat contamination. These scrupulously-performed tests conducted by Frigilunch confirmed all of Birds Eye conclusions. Frigilunch submitted the results to the Food Standards Agency.
Birds Eye has released its official statement. In it, the frozen food giant said:
In total we have tested 250 products across Europe and confirmed three products as containing horse meat. All other products across our beef range, both sold here in the UK and in our other markets in Europe, have now been given the all clear, and we have submitted our test results to the FSA as requested.
You can rest assured that all other suppliers to Birds Eye have also been given the all clear.
