Bird skull in spinach: Eyeball possibly eaten by customer or guests

A bird skull in spinach was something a woman in Florida found after visiting a grocery store to get food for a New Year's Eve celebrations. A Jan. 9 report by UPI wrote that Madeline Brogan of Satasota bought a package of frozen spinach at Publix and long after she served up the finished product, it came to realization that a bird skull was in the leafy food.

Brogan noticed the strange lump in the dish she was cleaning up the next day following her party.

"I picked it up and started pulling the spinach off it and realized there were two eye holes, and it was a little skull," she said. "I ate that eye, or someone did."

Publix is investigating the bird skull in spinach incident.

The store said this in a statement:

"We did receive communication from the customer through our customer care department, which was shared with our corporate quality assurance team. They are working through the details with the customer and the supplier. We have not received any additional complaints and believe this is an isolated incident."

Publix offered a refund to Brogan for the cost of the product, but the only thing she hopes for is that the store resolves the matter.

Finding a bird skull in spinach is a pretty disgusting discovery for anyone. That was a big miss on someone's part.
