Just under 15 miles south of the popular Wynwood Art District in NW Miami, the groundswell of a renaissance, of sorts, is beginning to gradually reverberate in a ‘designer’ sector of SW Miami. That’s where the Bird Road Art District is located and where, increasingly, the artists community there are beginning to claim their portion of the art aficionados who not only reside in Metropolitan Miami, but their share of visitors too from overseas and from the northern States.
Although not as well known (yet) as their adversaries in NW Miami, the SW Miami Art group feels that sufficiently enough is happening in and around South Miami’s Bird Road neighborhood to draw the kind of notice that would give them a boost in the Arts traffic.
Right now, one of the biggest draws to the SW Art District is the ever popular monthly ‘Art Walk’ now in its third year.
“While the art walk draws hundreds of art lovers once a month, there is plenty to see and do all year long” according to the Miami Herald’s Sue Arrowsmith.
“The Bird Road Art District is home to more than 20 art studios. They are not all open to the public during the art walk, which typically runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Stroll to the different studios and shops, or park and hop aboard the air-conditioned shuttle for free” she added.
