Despite the fact that the elf mage has appeared in numerous screens for Dragon Age: Inquisition, and he was informally revealed to be a likely party member previously, Bioware has now officially announced that Solas will be joining the Inquisitor’s team as one of the nine companion characters of the upcoming entry of the popular fantasy franchise. Offering a few details on the background of the bald apostate, the developer provided a brief introduction to Dragon Age: Inquisition’s newest revealed companion on July 1.
Choosing to distance himself from a fearful society that would likely take away his freedom due to his powers, the mage Solas decided it would be best to avoid civilization and lived off the wilderness instead. However, he no longer feels that he can continue to hide in self-exile as demons begin to pour into Thedas. Wanting to offer his assistance, the apostate eventually joins with the Inquisitor to help close the rifts between then physical world and dreaming world of the Fade.
Since all of Thedas is in danger of being devoured by demonic forces from the Fade, Solas becomes particularly important due to his expertise on navigating the magical dimension. During his time in solitude, Solas mastered the practiced entering the Fade to explore the dangerous realm. As such, he might be one of the people who understand the dreamscape and its demonic inhabitants better than anyone else in the world. This makes his contributions invaluable to the Inquisition as they strive to fight back the invading demons and close the tears between worlds.
Solas is one of nine total companions that will be available in Dragon Age: Inquisition. The different characters will come from difference backgrounds and will be made up of different classes, races, and personalities. As fans have come to expect from Bioware titles, players will be given the option to romance several of these characters.
