Beginning on Friday, October 14 with a showing of The Last Mountain, and continuing on through the weekend, the Moving Image Festival portion of the upcoming Bioneers conference promises to delight and provoke with daily screenings of an exciting line-up of independent and alternative media.

The Last Mountain portrays the devastating effects of mountaintop coal removal in West Virginia’s Coal River Valley. In it filmmaker Bill Haney illustrates the way residents and activists are standing up to the industry and major employer that is so deeply embedded in the region and concentrates on the efforts of Bobby Kennedy Jr. who along with grassroots organizations helped increase awareness of the rising battle over Appalachian mountaintop mining.
