Bioneers in motion at Moving Image Festival 2011

Beginning on Friday, October 14 with a showing of The Last Mountain, and continuing on through the weekend, the Moving Image Festival portion of the upcoming Bioneers conference promises to delight and provoke with daily screenings of an exciting line-up of independent and alternative media.

Perhaps of most interest to sustainable food enthusiasts will be Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us? and Priceless.

Queen of the Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us?

Queen of the Sun features Michael Pollan, Vandana Shiva, Gunther Hauk and beekeepers from around the world, in an engaging, alarming and ultimately uplifting film that reveals a dramatic story about the problems and solutions in renewing a culture to be in balance with nature. In Person: Emmet Brady with Gunther Hauk, Michael Thiele, and director Taggart Siegel.

The New Environmentalists: The Solution
On an island off the coast of Siberia, a dedicated activist fights to protect endangered wildlife and the region's biodiversity from oil and gas development. In Person: Tom Dusenbery.

Priceless looks at how agriculture and energy are shaped by a variety of interests including industry groups, political parties, lobbyists, citizen groups, candidates and officeholders. In Person: Director Steve Cowan.

The Last Mountain
The Last Mountain portrays the devastating effects of mountaintop coal removal in West Virginia’s Coal River Valley. In it filmmaker Bill Haney illustrates the way residents and activists are standing up to the industry and major employer that is so deeply embedded in the region and concentrates on the efforts of Bobby Kennedy Jr. who along with grassroots organizations helped increase awareness of the rising battle over Appalachian mountaintop mining. The Last Mountain premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. In Person: Riki Ott with Reid Martin Basso.
