Political:
- Served as Chairman of Children’s First, one of the nation’s largest student funding organizations, which gives scholarships to low income students to attend private schools.
- Was appointed by Jeb Bush to serve on the board of the St. Johns River Water Management District from 1999-2007. During his tenure on the Management District board, Deon spent two terms as Chairman.
- Participates in Step-Up for Children
on the Board of Directors of the Frye Institute.
Personal:
- Born April 16, 1967 in Starke, Florida to Felix Godfrey Long, Jr. and Cotes Long, from Marianna, Florida and Lawtey, Florida respectively.
- Raised in Marianna, Florida with his two siblings, Dexter and Katrina.
- Married to Monique Willis. Deon is a proud father of four children: Cagney Danielle (19), Ometrias Deon Long, II (18), Christian Dumas Long (16), and Carson Delaney Long (Deceased).
Education:
- Graduated from Marianna High School in 1985.
- Graduated from the University Of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor in business finance.
- Served in the UF student senate, with Student Government Productions and was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
- Graduated from the University of Michigan School of Law in 1993
- Associate Editor for the Michigan Law Review.
Professional:
- Became a member of the Florida Bar in 1994
- Deon is currently a practicing attorney out of Winter Park, Florida.
