Chef Kevin Binkley, most recently lauded as a 2014 James Beard Award “Best Chef” nominee, is clearly not taking the summer off, as evidenced by his latest dinner event, where he will pair not only fine food and wine, but locally grown produce as well.
Nicknamed the “Farmer in the House” dinner, Binkley will partner with Pat Duncan of Duncan’s Trading Co. on Wednesday, May 28 to create a six-course menu focused on showcasing exotic fruits and vegetables from Duncan’s boutique, organic farm as well as perfect seasonal wine pairings as we usher in the summer months.
Duncan, whose renowned farm grows more than 150 varieties of organic fruits and vegetables, will not only be on-hand during the event but available to discuss the menu’s produce as well as answer questions from guests, which will also include meat, seafood and poultry selections.
Binkley’s innovative and exquisite menu will feature:
Cherry Tomato Ceviche
spot prawn, radish, pickled red onion, sea beans, taro root chips, sweet soy, cilantro
Kale & Prosciutto Salad
chevre, raspberries, turnips, hazelnuts, horseradish vinaigrette
Sweet Carrot Soup
lobster, baby squash, orange, parsley
Vegetable Beef “Stew”
filet mignon tips, haricots verts, eggplant, spring onions, mizuna
roasted baby beets, arugula, apricots, pine nut biscotti, white truffle honey
peach, zucchini bread croutons, vanilla crème fraiche, candied basil

For designated drivers in the house, the above six-course dinner is $96 per person. But for wine lovers, and certainly most reading this column on a regular basis, the dinner with wine pairings is $146 per person and will feature:

The event begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. with passed hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
A portion of the dinner proceeds will go to the Association of Arizona Food Banks.
