Actor/singer Billy Ray Cyrus publicly voiced his concerns for his famous daughter after a video emerged that showed Miley taking a hit of a psychedelic drug called salvia, from what looked like a bong.
"Holy crap," says Jenny G of Cincinnati. "I had salvia planted along my front walkway! Who knew!"
According to RadarOnline, the elder Cyrus took to Twitter to express his disappointment in his 18-year-old daughter.
"Can't be tamed" - it's not just a song title anymore
Billy Ray's Tweet read: "Sorry guys. I had no idea. I just saw this stuff for the first time myself. Im so sad. There is much beyond my control right now."
Poor Billy Ray - his life has been a roller coaster ride of late, having recently split from wife of 17 years, Tish, after rumors circulated that Mrs. Cyrus was having an affair with rocker Bret Michaels. Billy Ray file for divorce from Tish back in October, citing irreconcilable differences.
With all of the press lately covering the rapid downward spirals of so many young Hollywood starlets, perhaps Billy Ray has good reason to worry that his multimillionaire daughter's life is heading the way of Lindsay Lohan.
What is Salvia anyway?
Though salvia is legal in California, it has similar, psychedelic effects of LSD. The video that surface today, showing the Disney star taking a bong hit of salvia, will no doubt shock her legion of young fans (and their parents.)
Clare Kavin, a registered addiction specialist and administrative director of the Waismann Method, told RadarOnline, "It's [salvia] a psychedelic drug, a hallucinogen and has the same effects as LSD."
Originally used in Mexico during religious ceremonies, Kavin says that in the US, salvia is primarily used for its hallucinogenic properties and can lead to very disturbing behavior.
Said Kavin, "It can cause psychosis, your motion sensors are off, you can feel like you are in two places at the same time, you have 2-D visions."
In the video, Miley can be heard saying, "I'm having a little bit of a bad trip. Is that a Liam look-alike--is that my boyfriend? Is that me tripping? Does that look like Liam at all? I want more of that sh**."
"I really hope that she isn't headed down a bad road," said Melissa M of Cincinnati. "These young Hollywood stars - they get filthy rich at such a young age, they get used to the 'royal' treatment and begin to think that the 'rules' don't apply to them. She's so young and she's going to 'experiment' like many teenagers do...but unfortunately for her, she is famous and her every move/behavior is scrutinized. Plus, the poor thing has to be having a tough time with her parents' divorce. I hope she stays on track."
Do tell: What do you think of the Miley "bong smoking" video?
