"Christmas Comes Home to Canaan" is the sequel to "Christmas in Canaan" on Hallmark Channel.The movies star Billy Ray Cyrus as a widower and father who lives in Texas. Christmas in Canaan stars Billy Ray Cyrus in story of Civil Rights.
Cyrus reprises his role as Daniel Burton in the 1960s-era saga of a family’s experiences in racially charged Canaan, Texas. The story is narrated by Matt Ward (“Christmas in Canaan,” “TRON: Legacy”), who plays Raymond, who Daniel took in and treated like a son.
Daniel’s youngest son Bobber (Liam James, “The Killing”) is unable to walk due to a severe injury.
Raymond is now a successful writer and offers to fly Daniel and Bobber to San Francisco and to pay for surgery that may help him walk.
In San Franciso, Bobber has the surgery and gets extensive physical rehabilitation. The therapist, Briony Adair (Gina Holden, “Life Unexpected”), is a beautiful young woman who becomes a love interest for Daniel.
The therapy goes slowly and Bobber does not progress as well as hoped. Briony travels to Texas to continue to work with Bobber over the Christmas holiday, Briony gets along well with the family, except for Daniel's daughter Sarah (Emily Tennant, "Christmas in Canaan"), who feels displaced by having another female in the house.
The differences between Briony and the family become evident during the Christmas celebration, when Briony inadvertantly steps on a cherished Burton family tradition. A dust up with Sarah causes Briony to leave to return to San Francisco. Sarah soon realizes that she acted badly because of her jealousy.
After Christmas, Sarah is making plans for college and Daniel realizes that she is leaving home soon, making him feel lonely.
Daniel busies himself with helping his African American neighbor Shoup (Julian D. Christopher, “Christmas in Canaan,” “Flashpoint”) who is having trouble keeping his store going because the white townspeople do not want to do business with a black man. Daniel helps out at the store and urges his neighbors to shop there and helps to overcome prejudice in Canaan.
Sarah travels to San Francisco to mend fences with Briony, who returns to Canaan for the following Christmas.
