He is a Platinum-selling recording artist and noted actor that has traveled the world sharing his gift of music. In an interview with Conversations LIVE on Fri. November 1, 2013 Billy Ray Cyrus talked about his career, his own path to finding where he belongs and the lessons learned along the way.
Based on his book HILLBILLY HEART Cyrus discussed not just how he came to music but how he came to be who he is today. He said during the interview that he really wanted to share who he was, where he came from and where he was going. Referencing his career in sports, namely baseball, he said this when it came to dealing with life's challenges: "You just got to keep stepping up to the plate and swinging, regardless of what happens next."
While at a Neal Diamond concert he heard a voice say to him to buy a guitar and start a band. At that point music was not something he saw as a part of his life. But the voice continued to urge him forward, and when he complied it all just seemed to click into place. "This is my purpose and I'm going to get there," Cyrus said during the interview.
The artist says that a lot of the lessons he learned early on came from his Dad, and they stuck wit him as his star continued to rise. One of the biggest lessons? "Never forget where you come from," Cyrus says. That is what he has tried to keep at the forefront while moving forward. His book HILLBILLY HEART is dedicated to the dreamers in the world and with good reason. "I was a dreamer. I wanted to dream big and do things that I thought were relevant." He hopes that by sharing his story others will be inspired to never stop dreaming when it comes to pursuing their own purpose.
