Billy Ray Cyrus continues to move away from Miley comments on 'GMA' (video)

On Wednesday morning's edition of "Good Morning America," Billy Ray Cyrus made his latest attempt at saving face following his controversial GQ article blasting "Hannah Montana" for effectively "destroying" his family -- and he actually did a better job than his appearance on "The View" last week.

In starting out the conversation, Billy Ray first stated that he gave the interview to GQ "two weeks before Christmas," meaning that it was soon after he heard about daughter Miley smoking salvia out of a bong. He claimed that he was in a "dark place" at the time, and that he also said a number of things he didn't mean. After reiterating that he is grateful to the Disney Channel for all they have done, he also admitted that he had a few regrets about his own parenting techniques:

"Looking back on it, maybe I did approach being a dad as a friend ... maybe I could've done some things different."

In a statement that many people are sure to be talking about for a while, Cyrus said that he actually still want to be Miley's friend, but he also wants to work on being a better father. You can have it both ways sometimes -- but it is not always easy.

So with that, the TV tour for Billy Ray on the topic of his daughter appears to be done for a while, and we probably will not hear much more from Miley until she finishes up her international music tour later in the year.

Do you think Billy Ray needed to do these interviews to improve his image? If nothing else, "GMA" may just be happy that Cyrus left without smashing any windows in their dressing room.
