Now this is a Billy Joel encounter to last a lifetime. On Thursday, news broke that Billy Joel was kind enough to make a student’s dream come true: the opportunity to go on stage and actually play piano alongside a living legend.
At a Vanderbilt question and answer session, a freshman named Michael Pollack asked the “River of Dreams” musician one simple question.
“I was wondering if I can play with you. I would accompany you, that is."
It didn’t take long at all for Joel to accept the offer.
After a few minutes of Joel and Pollack conferring together to discuss the song’s arrangement, they begin playing a Joel gem “New York State of Mind.”

"I walked up, we spoke about the arrangement for about 15 seconds -- he just went through what he wanted me to play -- and then from there, it was just foggy," says Pollack. "It's hard to remember. I just started playing. ... It was probably the greatest moment of my life, up to date."
