There wasn't a dry eye in the house or on most viewers watching last night's Primetime Emmy Awards during Billy Crystal's heart-wrenching tribute to Robin Williams. It wasn't a surprise, though. Everybody had heard that superstar Crystal would be honoring his longtime friend and fellow top-gun celebrity, the late, great king of comedy Robin Williams. Still we got choked up the minute Crystal took the microphone and began his heartfelt tribute to his longtime and now lost friend.
However, if we may, it was too short. After all Robin Williams was a giant among Hollywood entertainers and he deserved more time, but then this is from a subjective fan who loved everything an anything the actor, mime, comedian, performer did.
Highlights of Crystal's fond farewell to his friend:
- "His brilliance was astunding, the relentess engery was thrilling."
- "I used to think if I couldn't just put a saddle on him and stauon for eight seconds I'd be ok."
- "Robin was the brightest star in the comedy galaxy."
Lest you hadn't heard, 63-year-old Robin Williams committed suicide on August 11, 2014 at his Marin, California home. Williams was found by his assistant who knocked repeatedly on his door before entering and seeing him seated in a chair with a belt tied around his neck. His wife, Susan Schneider, last saw her husband alive around 10:30 p.m. the night before when she went to bed. In addition to his wife, Williams left behind a daughter, Zelda (25), and two sons Zak (31) and Cody, (33).
