According to a Tuesday article in The Hollywood Reporter, Billy Campbell, formerly of AMC’s “The Killing,” will play the lead role in the small screen adaptation of Lauren Oliver’s “Delirium” trilogy.
Campbell played city councilman Darren Richmond on “The Killing,” which was initially cancelled after its second season last summer, but rose from the ashes last month.
The best-selling “Delirium” novels take place in a world that has illegalized love and in which the emotion can be wiped from the human psyche with a special procedure.
Lena Holoway, who will be played by Emma Roberts in the Fox-produced TV series, falls in love just months prior to her scheduled love-eradication procedure.
Campbell will play Thomas Fineman, a politician who believes that humankind will be a more peaceful society without the presence of love.
At the time of publication, no premiere date has been set for the series’ pilot episode.
Personal Take
This series sounds promising, though it might be better served to be on the big screen. Dragging a trilogy of novels out beyond a season or two could prove to be problematic.

On a side note, how happy should TV drama fans be that the AMC suits brought “The Killing” back?
Sure, Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder wrapped up the Rosie Larsen murder case at the end of Season 2, but the pair’s onscreen chemistry and solid storyline deserved another go around.
Besides, who says TV cops can only work on one murder case and be done?
The execs were smart to bring Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman back as Linden and Holder. It will be interesting to see where the show goes from here.
As for “Delirium,” only time will tell if it catches on or not.
This viewer’s prediction is that its pre-debut buzz will carry a lot of momentum, but will fizzle out quickly—like so many TV shows do.
