Two abortion bills are the recent focus of Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvani and the Women's Law Project. The bills, Senate Bill 3 and House Bill 818, as written would prevent health insurers from providing coverage for abortions in the plans they will sell in the health insurance exchange, which provides people with federal subsidies to buy coverage starting Jan. 1. The proposed bills have limited exceptions where abortion is allowed, wuch as, cases of rape, incest or when the woman's life is in danger.
Currently Pennsylvania's Medical Assistance program restricts abortion coverage to cases of rape or incest, or to protect the life of the mother. (Tribune Review, 3/20/2013).
