District Judge Russell Fagg sentenced Thomas Joseph Godwin on Tuesday to prison and to serve concurrent terms for the felony assault on a woman and aggravated animal cruelty in the stabbing of a kitten reported the billingsgazette.com.
Godwin, 24, pleaded guilty in December to aggravated assault with a weapon and animal cruelty. He was sentenced to 15 years, with a ten year suspension, for the assault against the woman when he strangled her until she passed out and then hit her in the head with a rock.
He was also sentenced to a two year prison term with one year suspended for grabbing the woman's four-month-old kitten named Jasmine according to kbzk.com. Godwin stated he was trying to administer medication when the kitten bit him. Godwin admitted to throwing the kitten against a wall and stomping on her, but denied stabbing the animal with a scissors.
The kitten needed surgery to save her life.
Godwin will also need to pay restitution of $1,099 and submit to psychological counseling. He told the judge he would like to change.
