Billikens move up two spots, to No. 8 in coaches poll

After extending its school-record winning streak to 19 games with victories over George Mason and George Washington last week, the Saint Louis University men's basketball team found out Monday that it had moved up two spots -- to No. 8 overall -- in the USA Today/Coaches Top 25 national poll.

That mark is the highest SLU has been ranked since 1964, when the Billikens reached No. 4 overall in the Associated Press poll. This week, the Billikens are ranked No. 10 in the AP poll for the second straight week.

SLU is 25-2 overall this season, with an unblemished 12-0 record in Atlantic 10 Conference play. When the Billikens host Duquesne at Chaifetz Arena on Thursday, they will be looking to clinch the No. 1 seed in the A-10 tournament and at least a share of the regular season league title.

Last year, SLU won both the A-10 regular season and tournament titles, and if Saint Joseph's loses its game tonight at home against Dayton, the Billikens will be playing for the outright league title on Thursday.

SLU has never won two consecutive league titles in its history, so Thursday's game is setting up to be a historic night for the Billiken program.

In fact, the game is already sold out, except for student tickets, which don't go on sale until later today.

Fans that aren't able to secure tickets for what could SLU's second straight A-10 regular season coronation, can watch the game live on the NBC Sports Network.
