Five Saint Louis University players scored in double figures Thursday night, as SLU dominated visiting Fontbonne University in a 94-38 victory for the Billikens over the Griffins at Chaifetz Arena in midtown St. Louis.
Senior forward Dwayne Evans posted 14 points and six rebounds -- both game-high totals -- as the Billikens made a smashing 2013-2014 debut, albeit against a Division III opponent, in a game that doesn't count on either school's season record total.
Guard Jake Barnett came off the bench for SLU, and knocked down three-of-six three-point attempts, to finish with 12 points, while fellow senior Jordair Jett had 11 points and eight assists, and post players Grandy Glaze and Rob Loe had 10 points apiece.
SLU shot nearly 53 percent for the game, and held Fontbonne to just 28 percent shooting.
In fact the Billikens led 26-3 midway through the first half, and didn't allow a Fontbonne field goal for almost the full first 11 minutes of the game.
No Fontbonne player was able to even reach double figures in scoring, with guard Dallas Haywood tallying the most points for the Griffins with nine.
Newcomers Reggie Agbeko and Tanner Lancona each had eight points in the SLU debuts, while senior Mike McCall Jr., had seven points and four assists.
SLU will begin regular season play one week from tonight, on Friday, November 8, when it will host Southeast Missouri State in a non-conference contest at Chaifetz.
Tip-off that night is set for 7:30 p.m., with the live broadcast set to be televised by FOX Sports Midwest.
