Billie Lourd is Leia, and yes, this latest casting decision for the new “Star Warsmovie is staying right in the family. Just as Carrie Fisher has been confirmed to be back reprising her role in the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII” adaptation, it is being reported that her daughter, Billie, will be starring as her younger self in the actress’ first film. The Tech Times reveals what’s being rumored at this time on set this Wednesday, July 2, in addition to discussing the producers’ decision to keep the important part of Princess Leia between mother and daughter.

After weeks of public speculation, 21-year-old Billie Lourd is said to have been cast as Leia in the updated “Star Wars” flick. Her mother, Carrie Fisher, made it quite clear she was excited about participating in the new movie, and apparently was intent on looking her best when reprising the female role. She was even said to have lost 40 pounds for the part! Perez Hilton shares how hard the actress has worked to look her very best getting back in front of the film camera:

“They’re in London now. Carrie’s very excited about it. She’s been on a diet ever since she was cast, because you know they have to be up to par, so she looks terrific. Fisher’s lost 40 pounds. We all love Star Wars,” said one inside source.

Now, 57-year-old Carrie Fisher has apparently brought her daughter to the good side of the force, and is ready to make Billie Lourd the next young, beautiful, and strong-willed Princess Leia on the silver screen. Essentially, if the reports are true that she has been cast in “Star Wars: Episode VII,” then mother and daughter are looking to play the same role in different eras.

According to Hollywood Life, it is speculated that the new “Star Wars” film producer, JJ Abrams, chose Billie in particular for the part because of her “striking similarities” to Carrie’s own version of Leia, both in terms of her looks and fierceness. At this time, Fisher’s celebrity reps have not given an official comment on the matter, but they have not denied any of the intriguing rumors either.

One movie insider alleged that Billie Lourd as Princess Leia already met with her mother back in early June 2014 on the set of “Episode VII.” Now, was this latest role cast with consent from mother Carrie Fisher? The reports are saying yes, most definitely; the actress is proud to have her daughter Billie playing such a classic role, much as she had done when she was young. Talk about a family experience.

“Billie flew into the UK to join her mother earlier this month,” noted the source. “Carrie backed the move as she wanted somebody in her family to play her most famous role.”

What do you think of the Billie Lourd Leia news? As her first official acting role, do you think Carrie Fisher’s daughter will make a perfect new Princess Leia on the silver screen? And are you excited Carrie Fisher is also reprising her iconic part? Here’s to hoping that the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII” movie will be all that we lightsaber fans are expecting. There was a bit of a struggle with a Harrison Ford foot injury on set, so fingers crossed that the remainder of film production goes smoothly.
