Bill to help small business stalled in Congress

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) is
the sponsor of S. 2300.

There was great excitement when S. 2300 (The Small Business Contracting Revitalization Act of 2007) was brought before Congress. For any “small” business wanting to do business with the Federal Government, there was finally hope that there would be a level playing field for them to participate in these lucrative contracts.

For those who are unaware, typically large businesses secure these awards using less than transparent sources. While neither Senator John Kerry’s bill nor the House version is perfect, they are a great start - but I am saddened to report that this legislation is seemingly stalled in both the Senate and the House.

With election season upon us, not to mention the opposition from powerful big business lobbyists, I see no hope of this bill passing in 2008, or into early 2009. Please consider asking your Senator or Congressman their position on S.2300 and HR 3867. And, if, by chance, presidential candidates John McCain or Barack Obama stop by your neighborhood . . .
