NBA legend Bill Russell was arrested on Wednesday evening after authorities discovered he was carrying a gun through the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. On October 19, USA TODAY reported that the hall of famer was found with a loaded .38 caliber at a security checkpoint.
According to those involved, Russell had a permit for the weapon. However, carrying a loaded gun through an airport is expressly prohibited. He could have avoided trouble by checking the weapon rather than attempting to transport it with his carry-on luggage.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport spokesman Perry Cooper confirmed that Bill Russell's gun was confiscated. Further, Russell was cited and he was released. He will likely pay a fine and still faces possible charges in King County for carrying the weapon through a restricted part of the airport.
