Fox News' prime-time blowhard Bill O’Reilly called on Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to resign on the O’Reilly Factor tonight for failing to prevent military death benefits from lapsing during the government shutdown. Hagel “should resign immediately” O’Reilly blasted. “It’s about failure of leadership”, he declared.
O’Reilly conveniently leaves out that the Republican led House passed the “Pay Our Military Act” bill that did not include funding for the death benefits. The bill written in the House that was supposed to protect against but didn't was signed by every member of the House, including all Republicans. Not one Republican opposed the bill but now suddenly they had nothing to do with it?
That’s not even the big picture as to the real cause of all this government chaos. If O'Reilly - who claims to be non-partisan..hmph! cough! cough!.. wants to assign blame he can look in the Fox News mirror. For months the Fox News prime-time line–up of Obama-haters, along with the Republicans have been rooting for a government shutdown. They claimed it wouldn’t be that bad, no big deal - the worst that would happen were a few parks and museums would close. Then when the WW2 memorial was closed they blamed it on Obama. Now, surviving military family members aren't receiving death benefits, and they blame it on Obama and Hagel.
Informed Americans who don’t worship at the Obama-hating misinformation altar of Fox News know all too well who is responsible for this chaos. The Tea Party led shutdown caused this. It is certainly not a surprise to anyone that the Fox News hosts fail to mention that all this is happening because the Republicans shutdown the government. Moreover, it’s despicable that someone like O'Reilly, who has never fought for his country and laid his life on the line like Secretary Hagel did in Vietnam, would suggest that Hagel is not looking out for the military or that he’s unqualified for the job.
Finally, if being clueless warranted a resignation, then O’Reilly would have left the Fox News building years ago.
