That age contradicts what most have been taught over the years. According to references from the gospels and historical records other than O'Reilly's, Jesus was baptized at 30, taught the disciples for 3 years and died at 33.
To now believe Jesus was 36 when He died instead of 33.might be confusing to some. However, believing that Jesus died on the cross for our sins saves us rather than believing His age. We won't lose our salvation if we believe Jesus was 36 or 33.
There are still arguments as to the date of Jesus' birth; however, it doesn't stop people from celebrating His birthday on December 25.
Even though there are conflicting historical statements about Jesus, His birth, death, and other background information, there is no doubt that Jesus was the most prominent person who walked the face of the earth. Not only that, but He was the only one who died on the cross for our sins. By the way, O'Reilly even says it's a myth about the shape of the cross. See the photo of the cross on O'Reilly's book cover.
When we think of Jesus in only a historical way, we miss the spiritual part of Jesus being the Son of God. We miss the whole point according to John 1:1-14 asserting that God was made flesh and came to dwell among us. We miss the whole part of John 3:16 that God sent Jesus so that none would perish.
It is amazing that O'Reilly insists that the Holy Spirit woke him up one night to write the book, "Killing Jesus" yet the Holy Spirit did not direct Him to use the book to say Jesus was the Messiah and the Son of God.
The Bible is and always will be the inspired word of God. "Killing Jesus" by Bill O'Reilly is the number 1 best selling book right now even though it is a historical book with a lot of maps, charts, drawings, and conflicting information.
Let's not replace the Bible with O'Reilly's book.
