“Dancing with the Stars” may be losing one of their contestants due to an injury sustained while dancing. Bill Nye and his dancing partner, Tyne Stecklein, may have to leave the show early. Right now, they are in a wait and see mode.
"Working w/ a partially torn ligament. Plan to be dancin' next week. Stand by (or rather, elevate your leg by...)" Nye tweeted Tuesday. He posted a picture of Tyne Stecklein and himself with a bandaged knee at the doctor's office.
On Sept. 23, 2013, Bill stepped on his pant leg at the end of the couples paso doble routine. He tripped and hurt his knee. This slip not only injured Bill, it put them in last place in the competition. Out of 30 possible points, they received a score of 17.
The doctors recommend that Bill's dancing days are over, and he should leave the competition, However, the 57 year-old science guy is not about to throw in the towel just yet. He's determined to stay in the competition as long as possible. So far, in their two weeks of dancing, the judges have awarded them with 31 points out of 60. Although they are trailing in last place in the competition, it is a different story among the social media platforms. Bill and Tyne have received a record-breaking number of viewers support. They love him and want to see him succeed.
Reality TV World reports, "It's awesome that our fans are pulling us through with the lowest scores in the competition," Tyne said. "So the last thing I would want is to pull out early."
Bill is doing everything he can to get his knee in back into shape so he can continue dancing. He is doing RICE therapy; rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Fans will have to wait and see if Bill follows the doctor's orders, if he just sits this next round out, or if he will continue.
